The California State University is pleased to offer Group Life, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Long Term Disability, Accident and Critical Illness insurance to eligible employees through Standard Insurance Company. This site explains the coverage available and provides resources to help you take advantage of them.
CSU-Paid Coverage
You receive this insurance at no cost as long as you meet the eligibility requirements.
The CSU provides Basic Life and AD&D insurance at no cost to you if you are an eligible employee. Basic Life and AD&D insurance becomes effective on the first day of the calendar month following the date you become eligible.

Included With Your Coverage
Your Basic Life coverage includes:
- Travel Assistance: Offers aid before and during your trip, including visa information, health inoculation recommendations, credit card and passport replacement and connection to medical care providers
- Life Services Toolkit: Provides resources for financial planning, estate planning assistance, health and wellness, identity theft prevention and funeral arrangements
The CSU provides LTD insurance at no cost to you if you are an eligible employee. LTD insurance is designed to pay a monthly benefit to you in the event you cannot work for an extended period of time because of a covered illness or injury. This coverage replaces a portion of your income, helping you to meet your financial commitments in a time of need.

Voluntary Coverage
You also have the option to enroll in additional insurance at the CSU's competitive group rates.
The CSU recognizes that individuals have different needs and provides you the opportunity to apply for the right amount of protection for you and your loved ones at competitive group rates. This is in addition to any CSU-paid Basic Life insurance already provided.

LTD insurance pays a monthly benefit if you become disabled because of a covered injury, illness or pregnancy. Depending on your family's needs, you may find that you need more than your employer-provided coverage.
With supplemental LTD insurance, you have the option to replace a greater portion of your predisability earnings.

Accident insurance helps protect your bank account from the out-of-pocket expenses that come with an injury — whether you're coping with a broken arm or recovering from a serious car accident.
In the event of a covered accident, your Accident insurance will pay a benefit directly to you or a covered family member that can be used toward a deductible, copay or daily expenses during recovery. Benefits are based on the injuries you sustain and the treatments you receive.
You can enroll in this coverage within 60 days of your date of hire or during the designated annual open enrollment period.

Critical Illness insurance is an affordable way to make up the difference between what your medical insurance covers and what you'd owe out-of-pocket if you or a family member were to be diagnosed with a covered critical illness.
You can enroll in this coverage within 60 days of your date of hire or during the designated annual open enrollment period.

Included With This Coverage
- Your dependent children are also covered: Kids are automatically covered at 50% of the amount elected for yourself. Kids are also covered for 21 additional childhood diseases, including cystic fibrosis, Down's syndrome, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida and cerebral palsy.
- Health Maintenance Screening Benefit: Regular checkups are important for the things you depend on – especially your health. You and your covered dependents will receive a cash benefit of $200 once per calendar year when completing any one of the 22 approved health screening tests, which may include a novel infectious disease test (including COVID-19) or a mammogram – that typically cost you nothing under your medical insurance.
