Chelsea's Closet Play...Pretend...Laugh
Until there is a cure, we will dance like princesses and fly like superheroes.

Chelsea's Closet offers children and their siblings to select a new costume and accessory from our mobile closet. The magical transformation of a child in costume results in courage and empowerment, as well as supporting therapeutic play recovery.

What We Do

From 2009, the Chelsea Hicks Foundation program, Chelsea's Closet, is both a mobile and in-hospital dress up closet taken to Doernbecher and Randall Children's hospitals. Chelsea's Closet is a unique, one of a kind program helping children to magically transform into any character they want to be. With the support of volunteers, the children pick out costumes - which they keep - hold parades down the hallways and work on fun craft projects. This joy and smiles, social, emotional and physical therapy all aid in their treatment outcomes.

The joy and silliness of costume play is why we started Chelsea's Closet. The lifelong memories it created, are the best part of our journey with Chelsea's cancer treatments. When we knew she felt awful from chemotherapy and radiation, to have her twirl around the hallways with eyes twinkling, and giggle as a princess, we saw firsthand the magical healing power of dress up and play. Our hope and goal of Chelsea's Closet is to help children use costume play as a way to empower themselves and give them joy and courage when they are going through such difficult treatments. It's amazing to see their eyes light up when they see that exact costume they were hoping for. I know Chelsea would be so proud of helping others through their journey, and I feel grateful that we have been able to help more than 12,000 children with this amazing program.
