NAIC Suitability by State

2010 ModelNew 2020 Best Interest Standard
An insurance producer who engages in the sale of annuity products shall complete a one-time 4 credit training course approved by the Department of Insurance.

Insurance producers who hold a life insurance line of authority on the effective date of this regulation shall complete training within 6 months after the effective date.

Existing producers have the option to complete either:

  • A new 4-credit training course approved by the Department of Insurance that includes the Best Interest Standard
  • A 1-hour supplementary training course specific to the Best Interest Standard.

Most states allow existing producers a 6-month grace period for completion. The grace period may vary by state.

New producers must complete the 4-credit training course.
