The American Cancer Society is on a mission to free the world from cancer. Until then, we’ll fund and conduct research, share expert information, support patients and spread the word about prevention. All so you can live longer — and better.
What We Do
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. From leadership volunteers who set strategy and policy to community volunteers who organize special events and patient support programs, our volunteers, supported by staff, drive every part of our mission. We rely on the strength of millions of dedicated volunteers, and our diverse opportunities empower people from every community to play a role in saving lives, while fulfilling their own.

More than 1/3 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Despite the incredible progress the American Cancer Society has made in increasing cancer survival rates and funding over $4.9B in cancer research, nearly 1.9 billion people will hear the words “you have cancer” in 2021. Patients and families need your help, especially with the effects of the pandemic on screening and treatment delays. Your investment in the mission helps ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to live a healthy life, prevent cancer, find it early and receive high-quality treatment and support when needed.
