Dougy Center provides comfort, hope and healing to children and their families grieving the death or advanced serious illness of a parent or sibling. In our community, 1 in 17 children will have a parent or sibling die before they turn 18. Dougy Center serves these children, teens, young adults and their adult family members through peer grief support groups in the Portland Metro area, and through virtual groups online. Dougy Center’s services are completely free for families.
What We Do
Dougy Center's mission is to provide grief support in a safe place where children, teens, young adults and their families can share their experiences before and after a death. We provide support and training locally, nationally, and internationally to individuals and organizations seeking to assist children in grief. Since 1982, Dougy Center has provided comfort, hope and healing to children and their families grieving the death or advanced serious illness of a parent or sibling. The first organization of its kind in the United States, Dougy Center has grown to become a model program of child-centered peer support, providing services to more than 55,000 people since its founding. Dougy Center also provides training worldwide to schools, organizations and individuals seeking to assist children in grief. Dougy Center’s services are completely free for families, and they rely on the generous support of individuals, businesses, and foundations.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Dougy Center. We rely on more than 270 volunteer facilitators who work directly with kids, teens, young adults and their families through peer support groups. Additional volunteers help in our office and with our events. Simply put, Dougy Center would not be able to carry out its mission of supporting families who are grieving without this dedicated group. Please consider becoming a Dougy Center volunteer and creating a safe and caring place for children and families to grieve.
