What We Do
Created in 2015 by two Black women, ELSO provides culturally relevant education and leadership development opportunities that invite Black and Brown youth to Experience Life Science Outdoors. ELSO seeks to reduce the achievement gap in STEAMED (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, Environment, and Design) education and professions while creating a sense of belonging for Black and Brown people in the natural and built environments.

For six years, ELSO Inc. has been addressing the barriers to STEAMED and nature-based education faced by Black and Brown communities. Today we are inspiring, encouraging and affirming many young adults, young women and children who still face challenging odds of entering a STEAMED and green sector workforce that has remained predominantly white and male. We are at a momentous place in our journey as a young nonprofit and are proud of our award-winning programs and the deep rippling effect of our work. If you have volunteered or financially supported our work in any way — I thank you!
