We are an all-volunteer run mentoring/tutoring program supporting ~55 Portland area high school students each year. We support our students with their goals to attend college and help them find their best-fit schools so they can thrive in college and avoid taking on a large loan burden. We meet at the St. Andrew Nativity School on Saturdays.
What We Do
We give highly motivated, economically disadvantaged students the ability to take charge of their own academic goals. We tutor and mentor high-achieving, low-income high school students on Saturdays from their sophomore through senior years. Students work on writing, math and SAT tutoring They discuss civics and current events and work on college and professional preparation topics with their mentors. Sophomores/juniors apply to and attend summer college programs at universities around the U.S. while seniors apply to four-year colleges.

I've been volunteering with Minds Matter Portland for 10 years now and am continually impressed with the community. The students are hard working and resourceful. They are focused on their futures and have the foresight to invest their time on Saturdays to ensure they are excelling in school and are on the path to college. Every adult involved with the program volunteers their time to help make our students' college aspirations a reality. This is an amazing group of students and volunteers.
