ORHC provides for the preservation, operation and public enjoyment of Portland’s historic locomotives, railroad equipment and artifacts, and educates the public about Oregon’s rich and diverse railroad history.
What We Do
The Oregon Rail Heritage Center is home to three vintage steam engines owned by the City of Portland. We are a working facility where our skilled volunteers rebuild and maintain our historic guests.
The Oregon Rail Heritage Center is home to six organizations (Friends of OR&N 197, Pacific Railroad Preservation Association, Friends of SP 4449, Pacific Northwest Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society, Northwest Rail Museum, and City of Portland – Parks and Recreation) that share this goal: to provide for the preservation and public enjoyment of Portland’s historic locomotives, railroad equipment and artifacts, as well as to educate about Oregon’s rich and diverse railroad history.
What We Need
- Event Organizing
Opportunities
- In person: Ongoing
It’s been nine year’s since we opened our doors to the public. We would not be able to share the history and remarkable, giant steam locomotives with the public if it weren’t for our volunteers. The commitment, knowledge, joy and fun they bring to the Enginehouse is irresistible – you can’t help but be intrigued, amazed and want to be a part of this wonderful place.
