Help Clients Protect What Matters
Make sure your clients know about The Standard’s unique Family Care Benefit.1 It’s a built-in feature of Platinum Advantage Individual Disability Insurance. This feature helps replace income if a policyowner is unable to work due to a family member’s serious medical condition.
You likely have clients who are part of the growing sandwich generation. These middle-aged, sandwich generation adults may be responsible for aging parents along with their minor or adult children. According to Pew Research Center, this sandwich generation includes about 23% of middle-aged adults in the U.S.2
Caring for multiple generations can be challenging. In addition to daily and financial responsibilities, clients may need to help loved ones through treatment of a serious medical condition. This benefit defines family members as a parent, spouse, domestic partner or child (including adopted child, stepchild and child of a domestic partner).
Here’s What You Need to Know
- After the benefit waiting period, if the policyowner works at least 20% fewer hours and has a loss of 20% of income or more, they meet the minimum eligibility criteria for benefits.
- The benefit waiting period begins the first day of a family member’s serious health condition, even if they don’t lose working time or income at that time.
- Policyowners need to provide documentation of their employment and income along with information of their family member’s serious health condition. This information helps determine eligibility for benefits.
With the Family Care Benefit, your clients won’t have to choose between their paycheck and spending time with a seriously ill loved one. This benefit allows them to focus on what matters most in their lives ― their family.
