We believe every person is irreplaceable and has something remarkable to share with others. Our mission is to disrupt social isolation so we can all experience a healthy, connected life and contribute to a thriving Portland.
What We Do
We all need meaningful connection — it’s vital to our mental and physical health and the health of our city. Yet, many of us face barriers like financial hardship, chronic illness, disability and trauma that keep us from experiencing deep connection — something we all need. When anyone is socially isolated, we miss out on their gifts and talents, and opportunities to exchange ideas and perspectives. Since 1991, we’ve built a more vibrant Portland by collaborating with residents in more than 30 buildings in the downtown area who face barriers to meaningful connection. So more of us can experience a healthy, connected life and contribute to a thriving Portland.

Opportunities
- In person: Ongoing
I think of hope, curiously, when I ride the bus here in Portland. A trip on the bus gathers a variety of people of all ages and ethnic groups on a common journey. As we move along, some people board, and others depart. We travel together through all kinds of weather and traffic, to our destinations on time, we hope. Buses are like the hope that carries us along, serves us, provides rest in the process, allows for reading, prayer, contemplating the future. And often on the journey, people share with one another the gift of hope by thoughtful greetings, conversation, and helpfulness.
