The Environmental, Social and Governance, or ESG, report details how we help strengthen the places we live and work, support a healthier environment and maintain an inclusive and welcoming culture. 

Our company was built on the simple idea of being there for those who rely on us. Throughout the past 118 years, this focus has helped us navigate challenges, earn the trust of business partners and make the most of growth opportunities. It also guides our commitment to three of our main stakeholder groups — customers, employees and the communities we call home. 

The annual ESG report gives us an opportunity to tell our story — who we are, how we operate and what makes The Standard special. The report includes relevant information from 2023 about our finances, activities, governance, workplace culture, philanthropy and environmental sustainability as well as emerging topics such as artificial intelligence. Specifically, the report details how we:

  • Ensure the company’s long-term sustainability
  • Measure and manage the effect our company has on communities, customers and the environment
  • Create a workplace culture in which each employee feels valued and respected
