Need to Know for 2023: Paid Family and Medical Leave Events

Paid Family and Medical Leave is one of the biggest benefits issues on the horizon. If you have employees in one of the states below, make sure you know these important PFML dates and changes:

  • Oregon
    • Contributions began Jan. 1, 2023.
    • Benefits payable Sept. 3, 2023.
  • Colorado
    • Contributions began Jan. 1, 2023.
    • Benefits payable Jan. 1, 2024.
  • Delaware
    • Contributions begin Jan. 1, 2025.
    • Benefits payable Jan. 1, 2026.
  • Maryland
    • Contributions begin Oct. 1, 2023.
    • Benefits payable Jan. 1, 2025.
  • New York
    • The premium rate for Paid Family Leave benefits for coverage that began Jan. 1, 2023 is set at 0.455% of an employee’s wages each pay period, up to and not to exceed an annual maximum employee contribution of $399.43. This 2023 rate reflects a 10% reduction compared to the 2022 calendar year.
  • New Jersey
    • Change to the Temporary Disability Insurance legislation and criteria.
