Updated BIR Reinstatement Rules

We’ve updated our Benefit Increase Rider rules to allow reinstatement if the rider has lapsed.

Policyowners age 50 or younger may apply to reinstate a BIR that has lapsed. To reinstate the rider, the policyowner will submit an Application for Reinstatement or Policy Change. On the form, select a policy change of “Other” and write in “BIR Reinstatement.”

This application will also serve as an application to increase benefits under the BIR. Medical and financial underwriting will be required and the policyowner must accept at least 50% of the increase qualified for in order to reinstate the BIR.

We’ll accept an application if it has been fewer than three years since the rider terminated. The BIR can be reinstated only once per policy.

Please contact your in-force case manager with questions.
